Garden City Home Hardware Building Centre’s Dream. Build. Win Deck Contest is an opportunity for you to showcase your latest deck project. You're proud of your work, and you should be! We want to share your craftsmanship with our lumber and building community!

Here's How to Enter
Open for both DIYers and professional contractors! All entries must include a full application, a minimum of 5 photos, and proof of construction in 2024 (materials receipt, etc.). We recommend high-quality images that capture multiple stages of the project or best showcase the deck. Please enter using the form below. Every valid entry will also receive a $20 Home Hardware gift card!
Our contest runs from March 4 – October 31, 2024. Voting to take place November 4 - 15, 2024. Winners will be announced on December 2, 2024.
Chance to win $2,000 in prizes!
Four prizes will be awarded to different winners.
Grand Prize Award:
The Grand Prize deck project winner will receive a $1000 Garden City Home Hardware Building Centre Gift Certificate for the best overall deck judged by a panel of industry experts.​

People's Choice Awards:
The Top 3 People’s Choices will receive gift certificates of varied amounts. Our panel of industry experts will select the top 10 deck projects as finalists, which will be posted online for voting from our community from November 4 - 15, 2024. The three deck projects with the greatest number of votes will receive:
• 1st Place - People’s Choice Award: $500 GCHHBC Gift Certificate
• 2nd Place - People’s Choice Award: $300 GCHHBC Gift Certificate
• 3rd Place - People’s Choice Award: $200 GCHHBC Gift Certificate
Judging Criteria
Our panel of judges will focus on the overall layout, aesthetics, and creativity of the deck. They will consider how well it integrates with the surrounding environment and complements existing structures.

Functionality: Judges will evaluate the deck’s usability, convenience, and how well it serves its intended purposes.

Craftsmanship: The quality of construction, and attention to detail will be assessed. Well-executed joints, smooth finishes, and overall structural integrity are important.

Innovation: Decks that incorporate unique features, new materials, and new concepts will be rewarded.

Sustainability: Judges will consider the use of environmentally friendly materials, energy-efficient features, or other overall ecological impacts.

Our panel of judges will be selecting the Grand Prize Winner. They will also be selecting the top 10 deck finalists for our People's Choice Awards categories.
Rules & Regulations

Open for both DIYers and professional contractors.

Applications require the entrant's name, address of the deck, background, or short story on the project along with a minimum of 5 photographs and proof of construction in 2024.

Designs must adhere to local building codes and safety standards ensuring that railing heights, stair dimensions, and other safety features comply with regulations.

One entry per person and project. Each entry will be eligible for a single prize.

The Grand Prize Winner and People's Choice Awards finalists will be determined by a panel of expert judges based on functionality, craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability.
